Exchange

You may send us a DVD or a ½" screening cassette with written description, funding, broadcast history and contact information to:

Exchange submissions
American Public Television
55 Summer Street, 4th floor
Boston, MA 02110
Please allow 4-6 weeks for screening.

For Exchange submissions, please do not call APT Exchange prior to submitting your materials; instead, please send an email with program information to exchange@APTonline.org. APT Exchange will respond after reviewing program materials.

Exchange is a subscription service with a specific business model. If we decide to offer your program to stations, you must obtain the services of a presenting organization (which could be either a public television station or American Public Television) to oversee the submission and offer process, provide technical support and assist with promotion of the program after it goes to contract. The presenting organization will complete a submission form approximately six weeks before your program will be offered via an American Public Television teleconference or on-site marketplace.

Following is the general submission/release timeline:

January teleconference
Submission deadline: November 15
Typical Release: April (RAPIDS only), May, June, July

Spring Teleconference
Submission deadline: Feb 1
Typical Release: July (RAPIDS only), August, September, October

Summer Teleconference
Submission deadline: May 15
Typical Release: October (RAPIDS only), November, December, January, February

Fall Marketplace
Submission deadline: September 1
Typical Release: February (RAPIDS only), March, April, May, June

Underwriting Credit, Product Offer Tag, and Web Site Announcement and Marker forms are due for approval 12 weeks prior to the release date, or four weeks prior to the delivery date.

Program masters are due 8 weeks prior to the release date.

Syndication

It is always advisable to call or e-mail before submitting a program to APT Syndication for consideration. Unsolicited programs generally are the last to be screened. We will advise you if your program is a good fit for public television. At that point, you may send us a DVD or a ½" screening cassette with accompanying printed information. Our selection criteria are subjective. Because stations purchase programs out of discretionary acquisition dollars, being a "good program" isn't enough. We use our experience (and frequent conversations with programmers across the country) to assess the types of programs that are likely to draw an audience or meet local scheduling needs. We evaluate programs based on their individual merit and what American Public Television already has in syndication, what PBS is distributing, and what we believe could be windows of opportunity for a given program or genre. License fees depend upon the number of stations wishing to purchase and the size of those markets.

Premium Service

If you feel you have a program or proposal that is suitable for fund-raising, (ancillary products, such as home videos, DVDs and/or CDs must be available), please submit your idea via e-mail to: premiumservice@aptonline.org
